@amazone Dirk the placement of the cannons are still a headache to me. I think they will probably go best in the kuil or on the half deck. But to answer your question - no not yet.

You are right. No thief has a chance of entering these buildings. This apartment block has quite an interesting story. Approximately 20 years ago, the Chinese government started confiscating farming land for their purpose of extending the city limits. In turn for the land, they would build apartment blocks like these and then relocate to the farmers to them free of charge. But to keep things fair they would not only receive one apartment, but, (according to the size of their farm) sometimes two, or even three of these apartments. The "spare" apartments could then be rented out and serve as a source of income. This is exactly what happened to my landlord who has tow "spare" apartments - one of which I am renting.
 
Dear Friends

Now I really need your help and suggestions. I know we have spoken about the extra cannons before but the time has come now to make a decision as to where they have to go.

Remember, I have ordered an extra 6 cannons with rolpaarden from Hans with the intention of rigging and displaying these so that they can be seen. So far suggestions as to where they can go have varied between the bakdek, the verdek (kuil) and the halfdek as the most obvious places. All good and well ... but here is my dilemma summed up in one word: TUIGAGE.

This picture taken from @Danny Mulders excellent build of the Batavia shows my dilemma clearly.

At the bakdek (the area indicated by the white block) the rigging will be completely in the way as it would on the halfdek (indicated by the purple block). To me the only possibility seems to be the verdek (kuil) as indicated by the grey block but that would means tons of very tricky and difficult work. (Ek her reeds die fortuining se verscahnsing aan die binnekant aangebring). The halfdek would be far easier (al moet ek dan ook schotelende geschutpoortdeksels maak ), but what about the tuigage?

Or do I just install the cannons and worry about that later?

Your valued suggestions are most appreciated.

Het lijkt mij inderdaad ideaal om 2x3 kanonnen in de kuil te plaatsen, (geschrankt met de kanonnen op het dek eronder, dan moet je geen rekening houden met openingen bij het aanbrengen van de stagen en wantkoorden.
Alleen moet je zorgen dat de roosters in het dek niet te breed zijn, zodat het rolpaard nog wat kan terugrollen.
Als je kijkt naar afbeeldingen van bij voorbeeld de Victory zie je dat ook het plaatsen van kanonnen achter het want niet hoeft onmogelijk geacht te worden, maar dan moetje de stagen iets dichter bij elkaar brengen, zodat waar een kanon komt er een kleine opening ontstaat, zodat je je stagen niet doorschiet.
Maar als je maar 6 kanonnen extra wil plaatsen, denk ik dat dit het mooiste zal uitkomen in het bakdek. Ook moet je daar geen luiken aanbrengen in de gechutspoorten, want het dek is bovenaan toch open (zie ook weer op de Victory).
Succes met de verdere bouw. Je maakt er tot nu in ieder geval al een kunstwerk van.
