Dear Friends
It has been a while since my last post due to a combination of work and planning the next steps on the Haarlem.
First up was the side galleries and I decided to do - for the time being and to see how it goes - only the starboard one.
The only difference from usual is that I painted the Haarlem's maroon and not red.
I was very lucky that the gallery fitted nicely between the top two berghouten while making a good joint with the yellow sierstrook underneath the Spiegel window. I followed
@Leensen's advice by planking the kozijn with the 3mm Abachi planks which made it somewhat easier. I also planked the door with 3mm Abachi strips to give a wood-grain effect.
I finished the beplanking on the side to just to get an overall effect of colour. The beplanking on the galerij steeds need to be finished on the section between the door and the Spiegel and in the front. All ornamentation will be placed at a later stage.
And talking about hull planking - now was the time to finish that!
En dan - soos Bouke sou se: "Klaar is Klara!" - Uiteindelik.
Now came the part that I was unsure about. I was really happy with my planking effort and was wondering whether or not I should schilder the hull beneath the waterline. But I do think that because the Batavia / Haarlem is rich in colour above the waterline, a bare wooden hull might look colour "top-heavy"! Of dit nou enige sin maak weet ek nie.
So daarna is die romp geschuur en geverf.
En weer geschuur
En toe weer geschilder en weer geschuur. En so het ons aangegaan - presies 1 week lank en tallose pogings.
En so lyk sy vanaand:
All finishing touches still need to be done, but for now, I am happy.
Tomorrow it's back to work so things will slow down again. I wish you all a wonderful weekend and week ahead and happy building. Take care and stay safe.
Vriendelijk groet - Heinrich
