De Zeven Provinciën - Kolderstok. Algemeen topic voor vragen en foto's

Hello,

My name is Frank and i live in Germany. 20 years ago i have built two wooden ship models, the Bounty and the HMS Ajax. Last year i visited Upnor Castle near Rochester/England. Inside the main building was an exibition about the the Dutch Raid on the Medway in 1667 with a lot of illustrations of the ships and the Zeven Provincien, which i saw in Lelystad in 2012. Quick decision: That is the ship i want to build. I looked for a model kit and found Kolderstok. End of january i start with the build and after 5 months i think i am on a good way. The Zeven Provincien was an impressive ship and so is the model. Most of all i like the shape, the curved lines.
I did not follow exactly the plans from Kolderstok. I also used pictures from other models and the drawings of Blom. I changed a little bit the shape of the barkwood and the form of the railing and the back. And i add a gunport in the second row. I now that is not correct, but i dont like the big gap, so i made it like most of the artists who placed there another cannon in their paintings.
Thank you for developping this model kit. I have a lot of fun to build it. Right now my Zeven Provincien looks that way:

Welcome to the forum Frank, you are making a beautifull 7 Provinciën, but i have a question, did you place the carvings temporary? or are you going to paint them while they are on your ship?
 
Welcome here, and it looks great! I also like you're making it your own model by making things different from the kit

The dekorations are not fixed yet, just with tape. Instead of painting them, I will cover all dekorations with gold leaf, because i dont like paint on a wooden model, although historically this would be correct.

Welcome Frank and impressive work!!
 
Absoluut heel mooi Frank. Ook de eigen inbreng onder je lijsten zijn een mooie toevoeging. Zo zie je maar dat een schip in de houtkleur er prachtig uitziet! Ik heb geen idee hoe dit er straks er uit gaat zien met de ornamenten in het bladgoud. Maar voor als nog prachtig:duimen omhoog:
