Hello Dear Friends

So let's finish the Falkonet longboat!

But first comes that second and real heart-stopping moment where all the spanten need to be broken free from the romp. And "breaking" them out is exactly what is required. Armed with a pair of long-nosed pliers this was accomplished in no time and WITHOUT any damage to the romp or ribs.

All spanten have been removed and now was the time to clean out all excess glue.

Thereafter, the instructions are crystal clear and easy to follow:

Here, most of the excess glue has been removed, the Top and Bottom Stern Gratings added, the Deck Boards and Centre Keel Covering installed and the Bow Grating put in place.

Thereafter the hull received a quick sanding and the first coat of 100% pure Tung Oil diluted with Mineral Turpentine. (30% Tung Oil; 70% Mineral Turpentine).

Rudder added and interior coated with the Tung Oil and Mineral Turpentine mixture.

The last picture is of the longboat on the Haarlem. The stern is just loosely placed on a cannon carriage for support.

And that concludes this longboat build. It is an amazingly well-engineered kit which I believe set high standards. Whether or not it fits on the Haarlem, I leave to you decide. Please let me know your thoughts.

Mooi bootje geworden Heinrich. Wel een beetje jammer van al die lijm resten:rolleyes:, houtlijm geeft een zeer sterke verbinding en word helaas te vaak in overvloed gebruikt, wat dus niet nodig is. Een heel dun laagje is al ruim voldoende en voorkomt het uitstulpen van teveel lijm. (geen kritiek hoor, slechts een tip;))
 
Heinrich, dit is een verrekte mooi sloepje geworden, en ik vind haar daar heel mooi staan op het dek van de Haarlem :):)

@Pingu Baie dankie vir die mooi woorde, Peter. Dit is goed om te hoor dat jy dink die bootje pas by die Haarlem.

@CXello Hello Chris. Wat ek kon sien het ek weggeskraap, maar die schaal van 1:100 maak dat ek nie altyd die lijmresten kon sien nie. Hiite wou hier nie help nie (ek het prober).

@Stephan Kertész Baie dankie vir die tip, Stephan. Dit is goed om in gedagte te hou.

Baie dankie vir die al die advise mannen - ek stel dit hoog op prys. Ek weet nou dat die ruimte op die dek genoeg is, so ek kan nou eers voortgaan met die verscahnsing en die plaas van die kanonnen. Daarna, bou ons weer n bijboot - hopelik die keer sonder lijmresten!;)
 
prachtige bijboot heinrich en die lijm , op macro fotos ziet het er altijd veel erger uit dan in het echt maak u daar vooral geen zorgen over want ik ben bijna zeker dat je er niets van ziet als je het bootje in je hand hebt.
 
Ondanks de lijm een heel mooi schuitje geworden Heinrich, en met de benodigde adviezen moet het in de toekomst alleen maar beter gaan...;);)

You have actually hit the nail on the head. I certainly don't want use to use the macro-effect as an excuse, but it is exactly like you said. In the hand, you see nothing of the lijmresten.:yes:
