Bouwverslag: zelfbouw 80cm deep-V

Thank you Jan. Let's experiment with the turn fins. :)

The turn fins are made of 2 mm aluminum. I know it is not the best choice but it is easy to replace them later on if they are not strong enough. I have also bought an 1 mm stainless steel plate but it is too difficult to process.

I totally agree with the fixation strategy. I ve used a latch in the Penarib and I also bought these rosettes for the various cowls:

Happy new year Jan!

I think that the weight of the boat is more than excellent. Take a look at the ARTR version of the MHZ Lizard Xtreme 83 cm (with motor and servo).

So your hull seems to be at the lower tail of the weight distribution for a 80 cm mono .

I love the thumpscrews and the "Cosy-style" underneath support.

I can't wait for the painting scheme. Are the temperatures higher to give you the opportunity to paint?

Nonetheless, I think that you can still run the boat unpainted since it is already laminated and waterproofed. :D

Thanks Dim [emoji106]. You always find good resources and the weight reference of the Lizard is another good example.

The hull is 90% waterproof. Some parts need an epoxy seal or glass weave still. The hatch supports and the cowl inside for example.

The temperature is around 11 degrees. Maybe just ok for paint, but I will do that lateron. I will finish the hardware first, but actually that's almost done!

I have to think about a nice paint scheme still. I have thought of the same colors as on my T800. To make them like racing brothers. But I'm also thinking about neon yellow. A bit like the Miss Geico hulls.

Thanks Jan. I like to have a good reference from the market when I build a boat so I search a lot.

Regarding the painting I am sure you will find something super nice. The idea of a signature painting scheme is also very good. I have seen a guy that paints all his boats white, green and black I think (mostly zipkits).

On the other hand it also nice to try different colors and the neon yellow is amazing (I am planing to use it also).

I love the GPS mounting device, I ll consider making a similar one.
I am very curious how she gonna sail without the trim tabs... Should we expext a video of the maiden?
Good luck!

Thanks guys [emoji106] I will make a video of the maiden run.
@Dim: good idea about the prop sharpening! I did sharpen this prop already (it's from my F1 T800) but I have some props to sharpen still and I like the idea of a prop sharpening / balancing video.

Running that stable without trim tabs is absolutely awesome... Congrats Jan for the maiden, better than expected for sure. I think that speeds over 60 mph are plausible with this hull. I didn t understand what happened to the rudder....

Thanks [emoji106] and I agree that 60mph is easy to beat, even with the same prop. I just need to full throttle it longer.

I ran 2 lipo's and on the first run, the aluminium rudder blade got slightly bent. I noticed funny behavior the second run, the hull would hardly turn left and stuck to the water more. When I took it out of the water, I saw the bent rudder and understood why it was running a little off.

I think it got bent during the small crash that's in the maiden video. It is a soft 'slide out of the water' and then a blowover. The rudder should be able to cope with that, but it got bent. Conclusion: the aluminium blade is too soft.

Upgrade to a 2mm carbon fiber blade is definitely a good idea [emoji106].
