This is not really an update ... more of just sharing something ...
With today being my off day and with the luizenplecht schot more or less completed (except for the skarnieren and deurhingsels), it was time for some activity in the scheepswerf.
Yup ... you guessed it ... planking ...
With the time that I give the glue to dry, 4 planks (two on either side) were all that I had time for, so progress towards the kiel was slow. Nevertheless, "elke bietjie help"!
And then I just couldn't resist the temptation to see what the ship looked like in natural daylight - so the Haarlem tasted her first late Chinese afternoon sun and fresh air.
Tomorrow its back to my students and class, so until next time: thank you for following and watching. Stay safe and keep healthy.

Je kunt natuurlijk eerst nog een stuk naar boven beplanken, dan heb je een aantal spanten al beschermd, je kunt ook even kijken hoe de andere bouwers dit opgelost hebben.

Op zijn kop, dan volstaat een blok hout onder het bakdek. Bij mij is dat meer bedoeld om het galjoen te beschermen, want veel spanten bij het bakdek waren in een eerder stadium al gesneuveld
De spanten aan de achterkant zijn stevig genoeg.
Dat ziet er dan ongeveer zo uit

Ik volg dit verslag met veel belangstelling. Het is al een mooi schip!
Mijn volgende schip zal ook de Batavia worden, maar eerst het huidige project (Friesland) afmaken.
Ik had om de spanten te beschermen een paar blokjes (balsa) hout gelijmd. Ik had de luizenplecht nog niet beplankt, en kon het schip gemakkelijk omkeren.

@Alex Hi Alex. Thank you for following the Haarlem's bouwverslag and for the kind words. I also enjoy following your Friesland build. That is an impressive ship - I particularly like the finishing effects on your romp.
The balsa blocks are a great idea, but my luizenplecht layout will make that a challenge at this stage.
It is great to hear that you plan on building the Batavia next.
All I can say is that I really enjoy building her and can assure you that you won't go wrong in choosing her!

In my available time, beplanking continues ...
The last two planks (0ne on either side) were laid down on the existing scheepshelling, before it became time to change it.
The aluminium clamps were removed and replaced with the Kolderstok-supplied standaard. NOTE: Of course this will not be the stand on which the ship will finally be mounted. For that I have already ordered the Kolderstok standard from eikenhouten. However, that will only be enjoyed much later ...
Inbetween, the fully-restored 1935 Bowman Swallow steamboat also received attention as she was readied for an activity on model shipbuilding that I have this weekend with my students.
And this is where we are with the Haarlem.
There is light at the end of the beplanking tunnel ... The Haarlem will also make its first public appearance this weekend! (Why this photo is upside down ... only it knows!)
